"Only dead fish go with the flow."

Bio:

I’m born and raised in NYC and love it here. I started my career in the tech investment banking group at Credit Suisse, then went to Columbia Law School and into corporate law at Cravath, Swaine & Moore. As I closed the doors on my struggling start-up, stars aligned and I joined betaworks as the Director of Finance & Operations. In my role at betaworks I work closely with our core companies (such as bit.ly, Chartbeat and SocialFlow) and invest in and learn from amazing entrepreneurs. Life is good.

  • Title: Director of Finance & Operations, Betaworks
  • Age: 29
  • Location: West Village
  • Contact: LinkedIn

You worked on your startup, ZipGigs, while at Cravath, Swaine & Moore.  Can you give us the backstory on how ZipGigs was founded?

ZipGigs was a project started by my co-founder, Ricky Ng, and I originally helped out by giving advice.  I was thrilled when, after a while, he asked me to join him as co-founder.  We launched at Tech Crunch Disrupt last year which was great experience.

Can you tell us some of your favorite things to do here in the City that we probably wouldn’t find in a tourist guidebook?

  • Dinner at Mary's Fish camp with drinks at Wilfe and Nell while waiting for your table.
  • Exploring Governor's Island and the old boats docked at the Frying Pan.
  • Waiting on line on a Sunday afternoon (with beach chairs and beer) for free tickets to the 9:30 improv show at UCB Theater.

You’ve done a great deal of traveling (over 50 countries). What has been your favorite country to visit thus far and what’s the next on the agenda?

It's hard to say but I guess my favorite trip was to Bhutan, followed closely by Rwanda.  Next, I hope to make it to Brazil.

In your opinion, what is it that makes Betaworks so special?

Easy - John, Andy, Josh and Nicole.
