What kind of challenges did you run into when developing a group dating site?
One of our biggest challenges was always in succinctly explaining just what group dating is. Early on in the life of the company, people often thought we were promoting orgies. Once we got better at describing the concept, people seemed, pretty universally, to get excited about it.
Did you always envision Ignighter having a presence in cities internationally where the dating culture varies between countries?
Honestly when we founded the company we were really building something that we wished existed in our own lives - a more fun, less awkward way to go out and meet new people in NYC. Now we're the largest and fastest growing dating site in India. It's been a lot of fun to learn about new cultures internationally and why group dating might be a good fit in these respective countries around the world.
What led you to switch from working in entertainment to tackling entrepreneurship? Was the switch pretty seamless or did it take a little bit of adjusting?
It definitely took a bit of adjusting. Even though I was essentially a peon in my entry level job at Sony Pictures, there was still a bit of glamour to the job. We had celebrities walking through the halls, went on fancy business trips to LA, etc. I went from working on Madison Avenue to working out of my parents' living room for a year in order to get the company off the ground.
Ignighter.com and group dating in general aim to eliminate the pressure and awkwardness of individual dating. Do you have any embarrassing/funny first date stories you’d be willing to share with us?
I honestly don't have any embarrassing or funny first date stories to share! My co-founders have plenty, but you'll have to interview them...
What’s your favorite reality show?
I like any reality show that has massive quantities of what I consider to be the three critical ingredients - drinking, fighting, and hooking up. For this reason, Bad Girls Club has been a perennial favorite. The most recent season of Real World Las Vegas really nailed the recipe as well.
